Why Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings Are a Popular Choice for Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries

Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings for Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries

Read Why Pre-Engineered Steel is a Popular Option for
Breweries, Wineries, and Distilleries.

Autumn is here, and that means it is harvest season in the Pacific Northwest, home to some of the world’s best wineries and vineyards! Wineries, breweries, and distilleries in the Pacific Northwest must strike a delicate balance between aesthetic appeal and functionality. They must cater to visitors to stay competitive, but they require significant infrastructure to grow, harvest, and produce their products.

To meet these demands, more and more vintors and brewmasters in the Pacific Northwest region have discovered that Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings, or PEMBs, are a reliable and economical solution.  Not only do PEMBs provide more strength and durability than other structures, but they also accommodate larger spans, last for generations, and require minimum maintenance.

Case Study: Revelry Vintners in Walla Walla, WA

Our design for Revelry Vintners features overhead doors, an attractive commercial storefront opening, and an elegant self-supported mezzanine.

Revelry Vintners is situated on 20 acres of farmland in Washington’s Columbia Valley and is surrounded by vineyards and unsurpassed views of the Blue Mountains. Its owners wanted to offer their visitors an elevated tasting experience in a space that would best represent their vision and the company’s Pacific Northwest roots.

After learning more about the winery’s mission and its unique appeal, our engineers designed a contemporary 10,200 SQ FT prefabricated steel building kit complete with quality metal building components like HR 34 Wall Panels and PBR Roof Panels.

The building was customized with overhead doors, an attractive commercial storefront opening, and features an elegant self-supported mezzanine, climate control units, a production room, a barrel storage room, and a beautiful tasting room.

An open, ambient tasting room showcases the natural beauty surrounding the winery and leads to an open patio where guests can relax and enjoy their tasting experience.

Here are just a few reasons why pre-engineered steel buildings (PEMBs) manufactured by PBS are a smart investment for breweries, distilleries, and wineries like Revelry Vintners:

#1 Climate Control

Any experienced wine or beer maker will tell you that climate control is pivotal to the quality of the wine. PEMBs are an excellent way to meet the precise temperature and humidity requirements needed to properly produce and age quality wine, beer, and liquor.

Our buildings can be customized with insulated metal roof and wall panels that significantly improve climate control and decrease energy costs. Our engineers account for critical harvest-processing details and can design refrigeration buildings that meet individual crop requirements. We also consider ventilation, weight and volume pressures, and building capacity during the design process.

#2 Open spans

Wineries, breweries, and distilleries have precise space requirements to accommodate production, tasting rooms, storage, etc. Pre-engineered buildings offered by PBS can clear span as much as 300’, maximizing the usable space with prefab construction.

We often recommend Clear Span buildings to our clients because they maximize usable space by as much as 300’, are self-supporting, and require no load-bearing walls or support columns – giving you access to plenty of unobstructed floor space for retail and tasting rooms, production areas, and barrel storage.

#3 Customizable, Aesthetically Pleasing Designs

Pacific Building Systems is renowned for its ability to design and engineer prefab building kits that are highly customizable and aesthetically pleasing. PBS’s in-house team of experts create custom designs tailored to fit even the most demanding specifications and requests, including placement and size of doors and windows, bracing systems, roof loads, mezzanines, equipment-storage needs, and column placement requirements specific to building use.

We also incorporate various finishing architectural interior and exterior metal wall panels and roofing systems that can be mixed with other construction elements for a functional and beautiful building that will last for generations.

#4 Cost-effectiveness

There’s a reason why PBS is a preferred steel building manufacturer with many erectors and contractors in the Pacific Northwest. We reduce construction time and save our clients’ money by implementing numerous field cost-reducing steps into each PBS pre-engineered building. We design structural connections to assemble with minimal field labor, and siding and roofing panels are pre-cut to length. In addition, operating costs of metal buildings are the lowest possible on the market today.

We can identify solar-efficient updates that will help you better control your energy costs. These updates will optimize your energy use, eliminate electrical waste and loss, and can even power your metal building with renewable solar energy, saving your business thousands of dollars annually on energy. With computerized design, our clients benefit from the most cost-efficient and latest technological engineering available today, saving both time and money and ensuring the longevity and value of their investment.

#5 Durability

Though our cool climate is ideal for production, winemakers and brewmasters in the Pacific Northwest often face unpredictable weather events like summer droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, and occasional flooding.

Pre-engineered steel buildings are some of the sturdiest structures available and are designed to stand up to floods, earthquakes, blizzards, hurricanes, extreme heat, bitter cold, and other weather conditions. On top of that, prefabricated steel buildings are resistant to corrosion and weathering and are less susceptible to damage and costly repairs resulting from maintenance nightmares that commonly plague property owners, like bore-bees, termite infestation, wood rot, mold, mildew, or other fungi growth.

When it comes to pre-engineered steel buildings, Pacific Building Systems is your go-to choice for quality and precision. No matter the size of your operation, PBS can customize a metal building that not only takes into account your current and future needs but beautifully complements your surroundings so that customers and employees can fully enjoy the space.
