How Small Businesses Like PBS Benefit Customers

Small Businesses Like Pacific Building Systems Can Have a BIG Impact on Customers & Communities

You’ve probably heard the saying that “Small businesses are the backbone of America,” and being a small, family-owned company ourselves, we believe that to be true. Small businesses build communities, drive the economy and bring people together.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) reports that small businesses have generated 66% of all new jobs in the United States since 1995. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.

National Small Business Week is coming up, and we thought this would be a fantastic time to highlight the importance of small businesses like ours and why it benefits everyone when people support them.

Pacific Building Systems is proud to be among the small businesses that build communities. We’ve been doing it for nearly 60 years! It all started when the Columbus Day Storm of 1962, the worst storm to hit the Pacific Northwest in more than 100 years, decimated the landscape throughout our region.

Wind gusts topping 100 mph leveled buildings and destroyed entire neighborhoods. Founders Fletcher Prince, Floyd Lenhardt, and Garry Johanson saw an opportunity to help rebuild after witnessing the terrible devastation caused by the storm and launched their new construction company, Truss-T Structures, Inc.

The company, later named Pacific Building Systems, is still based in Woodburn, Oregon, and is proud to continue its legacy of building communities.

Small Business Week

There are several advantages to being a small business that gives us a real competitive edge over larger steel manufacturing companies. Here are just a few.

More Flexibility

As a small business, the in-house team of designers and engineers at Pacific Building Solutions has more flexibility than a larger outfit. We can take the necessary amount of time at the front-end to understand our customer’s needs and vision, then find a way to make it happen.

The size and structure of our business also give us the leverage we need to be more responsive and avoid the typical red tape and chain-of-command you would find in a larger company to accommodate our customers.

We don’t have to hire expensive consultants or go through a corporate headquarters to manage our business. As small business owners, we make our own decisions, which allows us to grow and evolve within the steel structure industry. We’ve been doing that since 1962!

Experience & Knowledge

Pacific Building Solutions has provided clients in the Northwest, Alaska, and Hawaii with the finest quality pre-engineered building systems for decades. Because we have been in this business for so long, we have a unique understanding of the process of designing, drafting, engineering, manufacturing, and shipping steel buildings.

We also understand the local culture and other factors that could impact the design of a building much better than a giant steel building manufacturer located in the midwest or northeastern part of the country could ever understand.

Customers who need our services know that we are the go-to company for top quality, long-lasting Pre-Fabricated Metal Buildings (PMBs). With all the experience in this business that we bring to the table, we can often guide the customer towards a more efficient approach that can provide the same function at a lower cost.

Expertise

We think it’s far better to excel at one thing rather than take on many services that meet minimum standards. At Pacific Building Systems, we focus solely on manufacturing high-quality metal components and steel structures that will last for generations.

PBS does not participate in any construction field but focuses on producing the highest quality steel buildings, which are designed for ease of installation.

When you engage our services at Pacific Building Systems, you are not working with customer service or sales reps with limited knowledge of steel building structures in a call center located hundreds of miles away.

Our customers work directly with our experts, experienced designers and engineers who will guide you through the entire process – design, drafting, engineering, manufacturing, and shipment. This level of expertise is something that giant PMB businesses cannot always provide.

Uniqueness

We’re not your typical metal and steel building dealer. We know that our customers are looking for PEMBs that stand out from the mass-produced offerings they may encounter at larger companies. We don’t do “cookie-cutter” buildings; every building we design is unique, and projects range dramatically in size.

From air hangars to business parks or churches, we have a design – or will gladly work with you in developing a custom solution – that will be attractive, efficient in use, easily finished inside, and meet the strictest building codes, industry methods, and standards. When you look through our portfolio of steel building structures, you’ll discover a range of designs and functionality created to fit the customer’s needs.

Giving Back to the Community

Because we have been in business for generations and have remained active members of the communities we serve, we have forged lasting relationships that create genuine loyalty and keep people coming back.

Unlike other SBM companies, we understand each prefabricated metal kit as more than just a building or a sale. We regard it as an active member of the neighborhood – a place for people to gather, shop, work, worship, or play.

When you invest in a small business like Pacific Building Systems, you can feel good knowing that we will re-invest directly into our community and not into the pockets of wealthy investors who live thousands of miles away and understand little about the PEMB industry.

Service

Last but not least, small businesses like ours almost always offer better service than the “big guys.” We understand customers want to connect with a knowledgeable human being, not a call center on the other side of the world. This connection is what drives us to do our best work with the latest technology and highest-quality materials for every customer, from start to finish.

As part of National Small Business Week, we hope you can take a moment to appreciate the impact of small businesses. It’s an honor to be a part of a network of entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from all over the U.S. that grow small businesses, create 21st-century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness.

We’re proud to continue the legacy of our founders by providing high-quality, affordable steel building components to small business owners and individuals from various industries.
